Restoring Body Trust
I talk about Body Trust a lot in my work, and I want to show you exactly what it means and why it is the key to nervous system safety and healing your relationship with food and your body.
First, let's define trust, because that is a loaded word. I want you to take a moment and think about trust and what it means to you. Who do you trust in your life and why?
You might come up with some of the same answers I did. To me, trust is consistent, it is compassionate, and it is non-judgmental. It assumes the best. It is reliable. Trust shows up in the good times and the bad. Trust makes you feel safe, heard, and cared for. When I trust someone, I allow myself to be seen and feel vulnerable.
This foundational sense of safety and compassion is the core of our work together. If you're curious about my coaching philosophy, you can learn more HERE.
Now let's apply this concept to our bodies. When we restore body trust, we finally move out of survival mode. This allows us to get deeply attuned to our needs, recognize our boundaries without guilt, and finally approach our struggles with genuine self-compassion.
Do you show up for yourself in a compassionate, non-judgmental way? Are you consistent (over time)? Do you talk to yourself and your body kindly? Are you aware of your needs and do you meet them, or do you shame yourself for having them? Do you meet yourself where you're at? Do you feel safe and sound in your body?
If we lack body trust, we default to looking outside of ourselves for validation and truth. I want to invite you to pull your focus inward and find your most reliable source of wisdom.
Now, I am not saying you can’t look outward or can’t use comparisons in a healthy way… Yes, I said comparisons and healthy in the same sentence 😂 But hear me out. Comparisons have to be realistic and values aligned. If the comparison doesn't have those things, we can easily fall into unhealthy comparisons and toxic performance cycles.
Body Trust happens in 3 essential steps:
Attunement: Being aware of what our body is telling us—the subtle signals and cues.
Meeting Needs: Identifying and meeting those needs, without judgment or delay.
Checking In: Regularly tuning into ourselves, making the internal check-in a non-negotiable ritual.
Journal Prompt: If you could increase trust with your body by just 5% today, what would that specifically change in your life right now?
I am here to help you restore this vital trust so you can heal your relationship with food and your body and discover a truly sustainable and flexible way of living.
My goal as your coach is to help you restore body trust and look inward for ways to truly nourish your mind, body, and soul. We achieve this by breaking the cycle of shame, ditching self-sabotage, and rebuilding aligned practices rooted in internal safety.
